INDUSTY GRADE COMPUTER
Think of an IPC (Industry Grade Computer) in terms of your desk top computer. Many of its technical Characteristics and features are basically the same Micro processor and RAM Type Storage Media (Hard Disk Drive), Interface
Ports, Performance, etc However, an Industry Computer is a ruggedized Systems (Water Proof, Dust Proof) fit for use on the shop floor of any industry.
First of all Industry computer is especially designed to withstand harsh Shop - floor environments (extremes of Temperature, Dust, Humidity, and Power Surges) that a commercial computer is not designed for.
Before choosing an industry computer for your application, you should always take into account the flowing factors:

TEMPERATURE: Appropriately deployed, Industry Grade Computer can be rated to works 0⁰C~60⁰C and over (-20⁰C~70⁰C and - 40⁰C~85⁰C), While Commercial computer should stay well below the 10⁰C~30⁰C Temperature ranges.

Dust: Cooling fans in the industry computer, when external to the chassis are usually provided with special filters to keep out dust and other similar contaminants. On systems provided with positive air pressure flow within chassis, you also obtain: Consistently clean air flow inside the chassis of industry computer. Direct Cooling of Magnetic Media (Floppy Disk, Hard Disk, CD ROM Drive)  Systems Components and Power Supply. SHOCK / VIBRATION: Disk Drives in the industry computer can be mounted on shock absorbers, providing mechanical isolation and cushioning.

HUMIDITY: Machine tools environments (Grinding Machine, lathes, Machining Centers, transfer Line, etc) are often affected by liquid contaminants/coolants, while very often the Plant itself may reach high relative Humidity values, in which a commercial computer cannot withstand against the industry computer.

POWER SUPPLY IN INDUSTRY COMPUTER: Spike Surges, transients and noise on AC power sources are very common on the factory floor. Computer must always be supplied with clean stabilized DC Voltages under (almost) any conditions.

EMI IN INDUSTRY COMPUTER: Proper Grounding, Shielding, and electrical design assure proper Isolation and compliance to internationally recognized electrical standards.  Various IP/NEMA standards can be provided in industry computer.

Expandability & Longevity: An Industry computer is often more expandable (i.e. in terms of Nos. of Slots, Serial Ports, Ethernet Ports, Suitable Processor Speed (486 to Latest), Operating Systems (DOS 6.22 to Latest) than normal computer including support for legacy applications that need to work (and be maintained) seamlessly for 5 or
even 10 or More years.
